About Erica Neely

Erica Neely (full name Erica Alejandra Neely) is the Republican candidate for Nevada State Assembly District 9 in the November 3, 2026 general election. She won the Republican primary on June 9, 2026. District 9 is an open seat: the previous officeholder, Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager, is not seeking re-election. Neely ran for the same seat in 2024 and finished within roughly two points of Yeager while being outspent by about twenty to one.

Nevada Assembly District 9 sits in the southwestern Las Vegas Valley in Clark County, Nevada, covering parts of Enterprise, Spring Valley, and Summerlin South, including ZIP codes 89135, 89148, 89161, and 89178. It is a growing suburban district with higher-than-average educational attainment and a median household income above the Nevada state median.

Biography

Neely was born in South Central Los Angeles to immigrant parents from Mexico and El Salvador. Spanish was her first language and she did not learn to read English until age 16; she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Los Angeles in 1997 and later moved to Las Vegas. She lost her business and savings in the Great Recession, an experience she credits with changing her politics — she was a registered Democrat before re-registering as a Republican.

She and her husband Laurence Neely have six children, and nine foster children have come through their home. She is a state-licensed foster care provider and the author of Fighting for Sophia, a book about the foster-to-adopt journey with their daughter Sophia. She owns a small tutoring business, founded the Hispanic Latin Alliance, serves as a director with Virtue Christian Community and Classical Conversations, and was elected a Clark County Republican Party Trustee for District F in 2021. She ran for the Clark County School District Board of Trustees in 2022.

Published priorities

  • Education and school choice — state education funding should follow the child to a public, private, charter, or homeschool setting; supports expanded opportunity scholarships, properly funded public schools, and supported teachers.
  • Economy and cost of living — diversify Nevada's economy beyond tourism and gaming, support small business and entrepreneurship, and reduce the cost of living.
  • Public safety — support for law enforcement and first responders, and opposition to policies she describes as soft on crime.
  • Government accountability and ethics reform — greater transparency in Carson City; endorsed by Governor Joe Lombardo specifically on ethics reform.
  • Parental rights — parents should hold decision-making authority over their children's upbringing and education.

Her campaign has been endorsed by Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony, State Senator Jeff Stone, and Battle Born Republican Women.
